When I purchased my car back in 2005, BMW Canada didn't offer the rear view mirror with integrated Homelink garage door opener. Now I have the opportunity to get one of those but wonder if that's a DIY job. I have the following concerns:
1. First, can I change the mirror by myself? How do I re-attach the mirror to the windshield? 2. I think the rain sensor is integrated in the mirror housing. So if I put a new mirror in (which of course also has the rain sensor) will it still work? 3. For the Homelink function, do I need to have the car program in order to get it to work or is it a plug and play? 4. Finally, if my stock mirror doesn't has the Homelink now, will there be a power supply for the new Homelink mirror? |
Anyone has an answer? Rudy or Fred or Iceman?

The installation could be a DIY, depending on your abilities, I suppose.
Here's a document on how to remove and replace the mirror -- only you can decide if you're comfortable carrying out the procedure. Attachment 29345 Also, I found some links to other threads on the subject. (One link contains an older version of the instructions posted above.) http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=4011 http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=23326 http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=25009 Good luck! |
Thanks Rudy! You are the best!

So again, do I need to reprogram the car in order to have Homelink working?
|
No you dont need to reprogram the car for the homelink. If you need instructions for the homelink programming the homelink webpage has them. www.homelink.com
