My Ride: 2008 535xiT (E61) Black Sapphire / Black Leather / bamboo. Steptronic, Full Aero Kit, 35% Tints. 18" Run Flats. All the goodies short of Active Cruise, Comfort Access and the safty options. 2002 BMW R1150R. Red, Corbin, PIAAs, Fiamm,

I am in need of a rear DVD player and display solution.
My children get car sick on long drives without one.
(My wife insists its my aggressive driving but I think the kids need to learn to pay attention to the road and learn to anticipate what approach daddy is going to use to overtake that Lincoln Navigator thats taking up to lanes at 90 MPH.)

BMW aftermarket no longer offers the in-headrest option because it interferes with the active head restraint and unfortunately the center display that is available on the 7, is not available on the 5.
I have one of those "hang off the back of the headrest" deals but find it really unappealing especially with the garland of wires it creates.

Has anyone seen a more elegant solution? Perhapse built into the back of the seats?
I was going to drop by 212 Mortoring but I'm afraid they'll try to sell me spinning rims and ground effects.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know this may seem frivelous but having a 3 year old get sick on a long car ride is really a hard thing to deal with.

Thanks.

Gene,

I feel your pain man. You need to expand your circle of friends to include one that owns a car audio shop. When we make any significant land odysseys, we take the F-350 or the 210. My wife fought me on it for about 6 months, but I had LCD screens installed in the headrests on the 02 F350, and found them tough to use from the back seat, because the screens did not swivel. When I bought the 06 F350, my friend whom owns a car audio shop put in these Alpine 12" units for both seats. They have a nice plastic ring between the unit and the headliner, that can be shaped and cut to match the flow of the headliner. Install requires only a single small hole for audio video connections. I don't use the 550 for long trips because it will not hold the accouterments necessary to take two children and two adults any significant distance. The system in the F-350 is complete overkill, I have three DVD players in it, one in the dash with a screen and then in the back there are two Alpine units mounted under the seat. This is because my spoiled children can never agree on which video to watch. The pics show the screens in the viewing position, and then retracted. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the great ideas.
Rudy, I appreciate it, It didn't occur to me that I can get an aftermarket center display. Who'd a thunk it!
I'm going to also see if I can get it installed like Vishwen or directly into the seat if possible.

Stu, I like the overhead rig, but mine is an E61 and has the panoramic roof. So thats a no-go.
The other thing I realized reading your reply and your list of cars is that I think I'm one of the few people on here who pays a combined $500/month to park his car and bike near his home. The majority of you have those "garage/driveway" things I see in movies.

Thanks for the advise guys.

Hi, I was trying to get in contact with swiss guys from RH-Multimedia (http://www.rh-multimedia.ch/Einbau.htm#BMW%20Z4) because the have installed a DVD entertainment system in a e61 with comfort seats, embedding the monitors in the headrests. I had no response yer but I am still trying. Someone that pushes too would be greatful.
Is just a possible option.
Good luck
