Is it possible to get this upgrade on older E60 models? If so how much?

I don't think it's going to be possible to do. My dealer promised that it would happen sometime this Spring. I'm still waiting for the 'phone call to bring the car in. Might as well buy a Garmin...

Hehehe - yeah - $300.

Got me a TomTom One.

Tethers to my cellphone via Bluetooth and uses its Internet connection to grab traffic and weather. I use it mostly when I travel though (not in the E60).

No I have the Navigation, I just want to know if you can "update" it to include the real time traffic info...

Any one know?

BMW was looking into the feasibility of a RTTI retrofit and the product manager told me they would know by summer 2007. He also told me (although I knew this already) it would not be an inexpensive retrofit. I?ll probably check with him next month out of curiosity.

They said that about Bluetooth in 2004. If your car had the right hardware it was just a SW upgrade.

They also said it about Sirius in early cars -- as long as you had the pre-wiring, the eventual solution was simple. The problem was they stopped offereing the pre-wiring for a short time which was a huge mistake...

But this should be just a NAVTech DVD update and a ROM update to the car correct?

If you're talking about RTTI, it likely has nothing to do with the NavTeq data disc. The car's software would need to be upgraded (and it's probably already present in newer builds) but there's probably a hardware component that isn't installed on older cars.

I really don't know for sure, I'm just guessing here...
