Hi. Does anyone have any experience with using radar detectors in Ontario, Canada?
I would like to know which are the best ones, in others experience.
Also, what are the legal ramifications if you are caught, ie., confiscation and fine or loss of insurance points.
By the way, i do not condone any illegal activity.
Thanks.

From what I've heard, they are not worth using in Ontario. The OPP has a lot of radar detector detectors. You get it taken away for sure, and *think* the fine is $150, and it does not affect your points or insurance. Cops in Ontario are using laser more often now.

Hey KenTO
Most people swear by their Valentine 1 and it has been known as the best on the market since the guy who created it use to work for escort/passport companny Cincinati Microwave. He left the company to start his own. To make a long explination short the better detectors use VG4 stealth technology to fool the cops so they can't detect your radar detector. Not sure about any legal ramifications if caught. I hope this helps.

Yes, good detectors such as Valentine 1 and passport could not be detected by cops, but now OPPs here and even the York region police have Spectre IIs that will detect any detector unfortunately.
edit: I've read on other boards that if you DO have a radar detector and get pulled over for it, take it out and put it in your pocket. They cannot search your body unless you are suspected of drug posession or firearms, the can only search your car.
