Quick question about IPOD and AUX inputs

Just wanted to make sure this is true.
I'm looking to add the IPOD adapter and I'm not sure if I will lose my AUX input. I don't want to, I use AUX for my external XM and would like to keep it. I think I've read from you smart guys that it just takes out the Weather channels which would be great.
Also do I need to go see the dealer for software update after?
p.s. mods ordered and being shipped now so pics coming. big thanks to Weez and Garry.
