My Ride: BMW 545i, SilverGray with 30% tint all around
hey guys....I just joined this site and needed to ask a quick question regarding tints on my 545i....my car is silver-grey and i want to get 30% tints all around...the only problem is that the dealer said that this type of film, because it is a s[ecoia; dyed/metal formulation, might affect the navigation reception as it would be blocking the navigation antenna. If thats the case then i gotta go with the 35% tint.. I was wondering where the navigation antenna is located and what kind of tint u guys wuld recommend for a silver-grey 545i. Posts with pictures would be appreciated. thanks

Ceramic tint. Good heat rejection and no radio interference.

Ya go with ceramic. Its a bit more money but worth it and it wont interfere with any reception.

This may be true, but that Huper Optik tint doesn't look as good as a metallic film. Plus, you can't get it darker than 30% which is kinda lame.
This is my car, with Llumar 20% High Performance tint all around.... and 50% Platinum Plus on the front windshield.
I do window tint for the following reasons, in order of importance to me:
1. For the looks. Tint just looks better.
2. For privacy. It is safer if people can't see you inside the car.
3. For the heat rejection. I live in Florida, and it gets freakin' hot down here.
So.... while the Huper Optik ceramic tint may be a superior product in terms of heat rejection... I prefer a metallic tint because it has a better look, IMO. Huper Optik has a strange color to it.... where a metallic film will look more black.

I'm located in Canada, Mississauga to be precise, but the only thing is im taking my car to one of the best tinting shops around here, but the only problem is im not sure what % tint i should get. I was thinking of getting the 30% tint, but the only 30% tint available is the dyed/metal formulation. What % tint would u recommend? (i want the same tint all around)
30 should be ok. Personally I prefer a little darker. 25% is perfect for my taste. I have 20% metallic tint and I dont have any problems with radio reception. I dont have NAV so I cant comment. But like others have said NAV antenna is under the sharkfin so it wont matter.
Go with 30% I think it should be ok.
OR better yet... have them lay a piece of 30% tint on the back of your rear window and see if you notice any differnce in reception. My guess is no. Even ask them to lay 2 layers on top to see if it affects it.

I have Nav.... and metallic tint... and it does not affect it.
I have never turned on a radio in any car I owned in at least 10 years... that's what CDs, and the iPod are for.... so I can't comment on radio reception.
