on my 1O1 style wheels i had a spacer of 2 cm rear and front. Is the offset of the 172 wheels the same? Do i have room for spacers or is the fenders filled completly?

According to realoem, you have some room for spacers in the front and rear. ET:18 front and ET:32 rear. I believe you can use 15mm for the rear and 5mm for the front. These are the same offsets as the 128s. I've seen the 128s and have recommend to NeRwEEzy that he could install 15mm spacers without any issues.
EDIT: I was editing my post at the same time NeRwEEzy was writing his.

that would be the same offsets as my rear wheels. and vt has advised me to get spacers put on.. 15mm. and i am planning to get them hopefully soon. that would bring the offsets to about 17 right? and compared to vt's setup, it would only be 1mm difference. i learned the whole offsets thing from him by the way haha.

It looks like the width and offset of the rear wheels are the same, so if the spacer worked with the 101's it should also work with the 172's.
The fronts on the other hand are 1/2 inch (12.7mm) wider and have an 18mm offset instead of 20mm. If the offset of the 172's had been the same as the 101's then the extra 12.7mm in width would have divided evenly (the inner lip would have been 6.35mm closer to the shock tower, and the outer lip would have been 6.35mm closer to the fender lip. However, since the 172's have an offset of 18mm (2mm less than the 101's) that means the extra 12.7mm will be divided such that the inner lip of the wheel would be 4.35mm closer to the shock tower while the outer lip of the wheel would be 8.35mm further out (closer to the fender lip).
So you have to judge whether there was an extra 8.5 or 9mm between the wheel/tire and the fender lip with your 101's. If so, then the spacers will probably work. Otherwise you may have to get different spacers for the front.
I calculated those numbers manually before finding the following offset calculator. If you wilsh you can go to the following website and plug in the number yourself. It gives an inner clearance of 4mm less (I calculated 4.35) and outer clearance of 8mm less (I calculated 8.35). Here's the link to the Offset Calculator---->>>>>CLICK HERE<<<<<

Hi Rody,
Off topic a bit, but remember how worried you were about getting 166s b/c the tires would not provide enough rim protection and you showed my wheel/tire as an example? Well, I switched to General Exclaim UHP tires and these tires provide much better rim protection than my previous Toyo T1Rs. I was told that Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 provide even better rim protection.

So in addition to having a better wheel protection strip do your tires also look a bit wider on the top of the sidewalls compared with the T1R's?

These new GE UHP tires look great cosmetically. I'm in Santa Monica this weekend. If you want to meet up today and check out my tires that's fine with me. Let's continue this via PM so that we can put this thread back on topic.

With the 20mm on the rear wheels, you'll be flushed with the fender. You might be protruding out on the front with 15mm though.
