Default Question about taillight

Can someone tell me what I need to get this taillight? Do I have to replace the hole assembly or just there is cable replacement needed.
Thanks

Some inexpensive aftermarket LCI "look-alikes" are sold with a harness that connects directly to the existing plugs in your car. Some won't throw errors - some will. With these replacements it's ALWAYS buyer beware! Some sellers will write you anything to get the sale ... after that they disappear.

I think Luigi's reply is probably more confusing to someone that's new.

The picture you attached is a picture of LCI tails. You can purchase LCI tails and retrofit it with Bruce's Cables for straight plug and play. There are alternative ways to retrofit besides Bruce's cables, but it's likely beyond your scope.

for further clarification, your car, an 05, is "Pre-LCI" meaning, yes, you would have to purchase new taillights, the whole assembly, as well as the conversion cables so that your car can talk to the newer lights. I have an 06 and have been considering it also. I got behind a newer e60 yesterday and they do look nice. But it's just hard to justify spending close to $1000 to get that look, when you'll never see it unless you get out, walk around back, have someone step on the brakes for you, so you can see the cool effect...etc...etc...I think i'll just wait til my next e60 to get that feature.

But damn, it does look good!

here's a set of lights, "EuroSpec", meaning they have yellow turn signals instead of red
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-5-Series...dff9b9&vxp=mtr

and here's a set of the needed "Bruce's Cables"
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E60-5-se...36501e&vxp=mtr

Those have what he calls the "Ricky Effect" which illuminates the lights differently than stock, he explains it on that listing.

Those are some suggestions. There are other options available, but that's what i've had my eye on.

Hope the info is helpful, let us know if you go for it!

UPDATE: Looks like Bruce is having an overstocked sale!

Give us a call, we have the Sonar tails in stock and are now offering deals on the smoked and/or clear version of 10% off on the phone.

That picture is a Europe spec LCI taillight. The direction lights are amber. The US version flashes red (lame). I can recommend Bruce's cables - at least the new ones...

I aslo want to have that look...a pair of new Hella taillight is resaonabliy cheap in Hong Kong....only HK$1800 or US$230....but the plug and play cable is even higher than the pair!

May I just buy the OEM cable/plug and a usb OBD cable for coding? Is that easy?
