Hi guys was wondering if anyone has used, installed or has any feedback on this device. They are currently on Ebay. I'm really tempted to have a remap (DMS) but I'm worried about it being spotted at service (still 15,000 miles away). The alternative in my mind is something which can be plugged in and which is removable at service time.

What do you think, any feedback welcome..

good part is that it is removable plug and play.... so if whatever goes wrong with the car you just take it out and get BMW fix it under warranty
My friends were using this on their Audi's a lot..... It was actually a AUudi dealership selling those

However it is a pretty serious toy, it is messing with your car, so I would not get in E-bay.... no way.... I would get in a very well know DMS shop.

In Europe additional black boxes are considered only a second-choice mod. Specialists on technical magazines say they do not perform as good as a fully remapped original black boxes. Having said that, I installed one similar Carlsson unit on my M-B E-class 270 CDI three years ago, and it worked quite well but the increase of performances was not so big: noticeable but not huge.

Just one more thing: never, never buy such a critical component on e-Bay from unknown manufacturers.

Years ago, I destroyed the engine of my Audi A6 TDI after a poor installation from an unknown "friend of someone's friend" electronic wizard. Very bad experience!

What a mess!

Message received loud and clear, I agree, no way am I going to plug an unknown box onto my engine, merely used this as an illustration as to the type of device.

The feedback on remap over this kind of box is exactly the kind of info I was looking for...ta!!
Youve got to be careful

I have used a Van Aaken box on my e39 530d. It is located out of sight (you have no choice, it goes with the management computers) and I never removed it when it went to the dealers.

They either never found it or didn't car.
