My Ride: 2006 530xi

I am in the process of purchasing a set of 123's for my 530xi. I want a more unique look than OEM silver, but prefer to stick with an OEM wheel and prefer not to exceed 18". I originally was going to have the wheels chrome plated, but have gotten a lot of slack for that idea. The only other option that I am aware of is to powder coat the wheels. I am yet to see a color that is different enough from OEM silver to be noticeably different. My car is black and gunmetal or black wheels are not the look I'm seeking.

Currently the wheels are located in CT awaiting shipment. If I am going to have them refinished, I prefer to have them shipped from their current location to the wheel shop to avoid a third leg of shipment. It is also convenient to have the wheels refinished now while I still have a second set of wheels and my car does not have to sit on blocks while the process is completed.

Does anyone have shops in the CT or IN areas they recommend?
I am also open to finish options/colors. Can these wheels be finished in Hyper-Silver or Hyper-Black? Are these powder coat colors?
OR, should I leave the wheels alone as the OEM color finish is not harmed?

Has anyone else done this? Photos? If not, it would be great if someone more experienced with photo-shop than myself, can alter the photo to show what 123's will look like in the recommended finish.

Once I get this completed, I should have a clean set of #138's with nearly new rubber for sale. I'm looking foward to the new look!

THANKS

My 18" CSLs are hypersilver and I like the finish. I'm not sure how the hyperfinish (silver or black) would look on the originals. Since your car is dark I feel the hypersilver finish would be a nice contrast - instead of the hyperblack.

I agree, the hypersilver finish would look good. I have never actually seen hyperblack (only in pictures). It would be great to see if someone else has finished OEM wheels in hypersilver and/or knows of a shop that they recommend.

Why don't you go with M3 Imolas or Suzukas? +35 offset should fit.

Can anyone attest to the quality of these products? I am - for one - reluctant to invest into a set of rims that may crack/bend easily. Especially, living in NYC area.

I share the same concern. I have owned one set of reps and bent them horribly (all four wheels). I have owned ten sets of OEM wheels without issue -- not to say they do not bend, but my experience indicates on roads around here that they are less susceptible to road hazards. Thus, my attempt to try to give a set of OEM wheels a unique look.

I saw a set OEM wheels on a Lexus IS-F and asked the dealership about the finish on the wheels -- they are polished/brushed aluminum. This finish has a shine, but it is a very different look than chrome and I also understand it is more durable. The Lexus dealership also said that Ferarri has started offering wheels in a polished aluminum finish.

Does anyone know if its possible to polish OEM aluminum wheels? and if so, do you have a place you recommend to take on this type of task?
I assume after the wheels are polished, they will need a clear powder coat.

I was going for a unique look with an OEM wheel and polished aluminum is very unique.
