Performance steering wheel

Surely it's worth a go. The E60 is more advanced then the E90, or at least shares similarities.
For one the buttons and size of the standard steering wheel looks the same. I mean for gods sake it can be done on a 1 series.
Whats the limiting factor? Anyone know why it can't be done?
I'm guessing it's to do with the coding of the car.

My Ride: 04 545i sport, stick, L7, sat, nav. Charcoal/ runflat/ cdv delete.
Suede headliner/ trunk, 3 way front speakers, four 8" subs in rear shelf, ACM, iPod dock in ash tray using gateway 500 with MP3 text and video on screen, MRTM aluminum pedals/ door pins, 10 farad cap, sound processor, line conditioner, 2 amps ( 4x100 and 2x200)
If that thing operates based on the CAN bus network it might work. CAN bus is basically as universal as USB is for computers.

I've been looking into this further and the fitmeent of the steering wheel won't be a problem as the bracket at the back is the same shape as that of the post 09/2005 E60 steering. See pic.
Also, the two main wires have also got the same 6 pin setup. The plugs maybe slightly different, need to check. That just leaves the module that connects to the car for communication and wiring under the steering column.
I've also read it doesn't need recoding, so communication may not be needed, and maybe the module is to read and send car info to the display.
