Well my car hit 60000 miles this week, and after I got home today, I was looking in the service screen. I was planning on getting oil and changing it this week. Well turns out it says I'm over a oil change by 1500 miles!! So now I'm wondering if I should just take it into BMW to get changed or if I should just do it myself? I don't really have jacks or anything. Is it safe to drive it since I'm 1500 over? I've never replaced oil myself, I believe the oil was changed by BMW @ 48k.

are you still under warranty? if so, just let the dealership take care of it. If not, there are great diy threads here...it's really not that hard to do...

Yeah I'm out of warranty, how much does the dealer charge? I'd like to do it myself, but don't have much time to get jacks. I was just thinking to have them do it now, and once I order my jacks, I can do it myself moving forward. I just don't want any damage done to the car.

^the dealer will always be a higher price. Ask some of the members local to you or just do some foot work yourself and try and find a bmw specialty auto shop near you. Have you searched and found the diy's on oil changes...they really are simple...

If you own your car, you should change your oil at least every 3K-5K miles. If you lease, then no biggy.

As an FYI, I buy my oil from a Garry type dealer. I get 10W-60. I pay around $10/Quart and I buy an entire case. I take it to my local mechanic and have him do the change. I give him $30 which includes the special filter my car takes and that's it. I would do something similar.
