I've been on the search for wheels but the wheels that I want has to be ordered. I decided that I will go with the Marcato MTC wheels in my previous thread. Only problem now is that it is a 2-3 months wait.

Since I am considering going this route, just wanted you guys/gals in put.
I have to leave a 50% deposit which is reasonable to protect both sides. But I just don't want to be SOL if they take too long to get me the wheels or worse, close up shop! Of course I'll get a receipt, but if they close up, I think I'm pretty much screwed. Not saying that the company will b/c they have been around for about 3-4 years now and I've seen their store since they first started.

Any particular info I should ask for or have placed on a receipt?

If one of the vendors can get me the same deal (or better ) $2850 with tires(20's), PM me and lets do it! Or if you have a similar wheel you'd like to suggest shoot it over!

Will tell you from a vendor's perspective:

1) 50% deposit is normal. We charge the same for our wheels that are 3PC forged custom build.
2) 2-3 months is a long wait but not abnormal. One custom wheel for an SL65 mercedes we did in 20s was 6 months wait - he wanted it custom painted in a special shade of silver, but 6 months was a long time. Currently, we run about 10 weeks on all orders.
3) Vendors can close all the time, that one is up to you. The obvious recourse you have is paying with a CC. However, if you pay with that and the vendor closes, you will be one of the last to get your money back, if at all. It's a risk you have to take. If you are putting $1500 up front, best to go with a vendor that has been around over 5+ years.
4) I recommend getting tires separate from wheels. The main reason is that local tire stores will provide better pricing, warranty, and service than a pre-installed set.

Good luck with your choice. If you need assistance on our custom wheels, don't hesitate to email us.

+1 get tires locally. the road hazard plans locally are usually much cheaper and you don't have to pay to ship wheels AND tires.

Deposit is definitely normal but place it on your credit card so you have protection in the event they cannot deliver. Marcato is a solid company, I wouldn't worry about it but always nice to have that safety.

Thanks for the feedback. Nick and Umnitza I really appreciate the vendors perspective. I thought that getting tires seperately would be cheaper, but its actually more expensive believe it or not. I can either just get the wheels for $2200 or $2850 with tires mounted and balanced. So that would be $650 for a set of falken 452's. I've called around and it was about $800 for a set.

As for the deposit, I know its really up to me. Good point on the CC, but the only problem with that is that they will charge me tax. I was thinking of writing a check, atleast I'll have paper trail, what do you think?

I'm going to make my decision on Monday. And I know exactly whats going to happen once I put a deposit....I'm going to get home, log in to E60.net and find a set for sale that I can pick up right away This is the part that I hate the most, maybe I can ask them to return the deposit if I decide that I don't want them anymore?

pay them deposit with CC and get charged tax on the CC portion. and the rest in cash no tax. Work something out with them. I am sure they can eat part of the cost of the tax.
