That's exactly how I feel today. But it wasn't a money issue in the first place. It was the feedback that I got from some forums and friends that the turbo engine is not reliable and it fails in hot weather. The BMW salesman himself told me I"m better off getting the 528 over the turbo engine which according to him was only few more horsepower but less reliable.

Just having ordered a 2008 535i....I have to ask, is this BS or have the turbos been problematic?

thx!!

I've heard of heat issues in vehicles without oil coolers and also heard of issues related to the oil being diluted with fuel that was thought due to direct fuel injection. Someone sent a mobil 1 oil sample in to "bob the oil guy" after 1100 miles in a 335 and the oil was spent. There is one oil that tends to hold up better ( it was either rli or rti)- google "best oil for 335i n54 twin turbo" and you should find more info.

It's the 2008 530i. They tuned the 2007's 530 engine a bit and put it on the 528i.

Thanks thats cleared that up for me. So the new 2008 530i is known as the 528i, more power yet now understated?

am i correct?

the last 528i i saw was a e39 2001 model, a long time ago..!!

WOW...that's interesting news for sure...especially since I tend to drive aggressively, and I just read in another post how far between miles that BMW recommends oil changes...why so far for BMW vs. say Ford who recommends oil change every 5K miles? Is it because BMW uses synth oil? That's what I use in all my vehicles - but I change every 5k - 7K miles anyway? I'm purchasing (not leasing) my '08 535i and want the engine to stay fresh....would anyone recommend changing the oil sooner than the standard BMW intervals - given the twin turbo may be breaking down the oil quicker?

Any advice would be appreciated thx

It looks like the poster RI_RS4 (on Bob is the oil guy) has gone at least 4k miles with tracking his car (audi rs4) with RLI 5W40HD and it appears to be holding up well by oil analysis. It looks like it is a vegetable based oil made in Ohio by Renewable lubricants, inc. It might be worth checking out as you are not leasing so long term repairs will be more important to you. I also always purchase my vehicles, but if I got the 535 I'd be looking more seriously at a lease. I don't know if the e60 n54 motors come with a oil cooler but if they do not, I'd get one put on, especially if it was a purchase.

Mark - thanks for the advice and I believe (don't have the car yet) the the '08's Twin turbos all come with the oil cooler. Seems to be what I have consistently read....I'll check it out for sure and that oil recommendation too.

So far I paid total of 5 payments including the first payment. The car has 2800 miles. 10k/year
Sport package
Navigation
iPod
Black/black with bamboo trim
excessive wear/tear insurance
2950 to the door down payment
836/month including tax and wear/tear insurance

Thanks again.
Are you sure it is a 528i? $836?? lease with almost $3k down? Wow!

I thought that a lease for a 528i 2008 with zero down $690@month was a lot. Same configuration as your but with cold pkg also.

Actually for 36 months is a little less. I prefer the 24 months.

I never lease for 36 months though. I prefer a new car every 2 yrs.
