trying to clear something up here:

I bought a carbon fiber Hamann-type lip for my pre-LCI non M-Tech bumper. When I tried to have it installed by my local shop, they said that without heavy modifications to the bumper (which, they said, will cost me approx $500 for the whole install), the lip wouldn't hold, as the contact surfaces of the lip do not fit flush to the bumper, therefore the lip "will become loose and eventually just get ripped off by the wind at highway speeds" - did I go to the wrong shop?

Any info will be much appreciated! thanks!

Hard to tell if it's the shop or the lip, but that is a chance you take with buying replica goods. Where did you get it from? Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get the real deal...

Honestly, I got it from eBay - some seller in Taiwan. What sold me on it, was the fact that his listing said "100% fitment, no problems with fitment..." etc. I will try to get it mounted at another shop as soon as I get my car back from service (hopefully) this week... I'm just wondering if some shops know some kind of "secret" to mounting these things, cuz the seller that I got the lip from has 99.8% positive feedback and he apparently deals in replica aerodynamic parts - how could he have almost no negative feedback if his stuff is not worth the money???!!! you know... but then again, these days, life's just not to be expected to be fair, is it?

Yeah I definitely understand. I got both my roof spoiler and trunk spoiler (replicas) from ebay, painted and shipped from china. Luckily mine seem to fit good enough, but then again they just go on with 3M tape. I'd take it to another shop and see what they say. Also, why not try fitting it yourself, just to see if it is flush or not. Front lips are usually a pretty easy DIY anyways?

replica lips are known to have a lot of problems like this. Its pretty uncommon that you find one that actually fits

When I took it to the shop, I was on the floor with the guys trying to mock it up. I saw exactly what the problem is: the contact surfaces on the lip are not an exact fit to the curves of the bumper. This means that if it is installed without any agent between the bumper and the lip, it will fast become loose from air rushing through it at highway speeds and basically fall off eventually. The shop did tell me that they could theoretically fabricate some parts to make it work, but they said it will cost me twice the price of the lip...

Hey Nerwyll, should I consider this lip instead of the m-tech bumper if it's easier to install? Can you paint it also? How's the look compared to the m-tech?

painted is always an available option

although we dont offer the hamann add on for the preLCI front OEM bumper as a replica, but we can get the authentic one. the replica add on front we have is the ACS style.
