what needs to be done to convert a Non HID to HID using aftermaket kits, it is know that if you go ahead and do it on this car the normal way, the onboard computer will shut them down, therefore, I need to know if someone has been able to do it and how.

Enrique

It's actually pretty straightforward on most cars, probably the same for the E60.
You need a resistor to fool the computer into thinking you still have that halogen bulb in there, and the adapter is probably a standard H7.

Contact us for more details if you have questions.

Crazy4Cars,

Here is the good news for you. I just completed converting my Halogen to aftermarket HID 4300K. It works fantastically and not much glare as long as headlight lenses are cleaned.

I bought aftermarket HID kit which consists of 2 Philips XLD 145 ballast, 2 H7-based Xenon bulbs, 2 igniters, and wiring harness with relay and 20A fuse.

Here are things that I've done:
1. Signal for relay are tapped from left inner angel eye
2. Power is connected from battery jumper node
3. Ground is tapped to the nut (8mm) between transmission fluid container and negative jumper

If signal for relay tapped from main headlight, it wouldn't work because computer will see an open circuit and increase to voltage to 13V from 12.4V when engine started and running. This causes the relay not working and no power to ballast.

It's very important to have relay and fuse in the wiring harness.

If you have any question, please let me know.

However, the low beam malfunction warning is still on. I'm still thinking if I should use load resistor with heat sink which I'm very hesitant to due because it might burn some wires next to it. I don't know if Hella resistor pack is going to help, but it's too expensive.

If anyone in Bay Area E60 owner with halogen and wants to convert to Xenon, I can help you install it. It should be less than an hour.
