My Ride: 2007 530Xi - Navigation, Premium package, Steptronic.
With 33K on Mrs. ExGMan's 530xi, I thought it might be time for some new rubber. Reduced to its essence, last week, we took off the OEM Conti rubber and replaced those with same-size Nokian WRG2s. Expensive? Yes, but the recent 14+ inches of snow/+ice in my neighborhood were no match for these marvelous tires.
Examples:
1) I took the E60 out before the plows had done much work, and discovered that the Nokians kept the car moving so well, that the only time the DSC light appeared was in a hard, 90-degree corner...and then, only briefly.
2) After the first snow-storm had been cleared, another arrived, followed by freezing rain. I had to go out in this mess, and found people creeping along at 22mph. Free of the traffic, 40mph+ speed with the new tires was no problem. Braking from 40mph to 0mph was a non-dramatic, straight-line event, albeit with ABS working hard.
Buying the Nokians seemed like some extra expense at the time, but now they certainly seem to have been worth it.
