In the UK Costco will only fill the tyres with Nitrogen. My personal feeling is that theres more Marketing than Science involved here - how can we make people pay for something they have gotten used to getting for free ...hmmm.

Our local Costco also inflates tires with N2.

The reason nitrogen is used in tires is due to the fact it does not increase or decrease tire psi with temp change. I used to race karts and tire pressure is a critical component of setting up the chassis. It can literally make or break your race if you don't get it right. On a street car I don't see the benefits to it, unless you are at the track running laps for time...

its not just for track use
it make the tyre much quiter and it handles around corners fermer.

I use helium............. it really helps reduce weight ........................

I'll probly end up filling my tires up with Nitrogen soon next week.
Keeps prevent all that variability between tire pressures. Great way to keep the gas mileage at peak for a longer amount of time.
Tires run cooler, etc.
Oh, did I mention the AMAZING LOOKING GREEN VALVE CAPS THE GIVE YOU!? >_>
p.s. I don't like the color green on a BMW. Spent enough for mines.

How do they get the air which is already in the tire out? Do they create some sort of vaccuum? Otherwise over 80% of whats in the tire will be regular air if they just deflate the tire and hook up nitrogen to repressureize it.
