Newbie - Need some advise on Wheel & Tire upgrade
#1
Hello all,
Just joined the E60 forum. Its a fantastic place to learn, and i hope to contribute too.
Anyway, i would appreciate some advise. I currently have 18' 245/40/18 on my 525i, and I'm looking to upgrade to 19x8.5 wheels. I'm wondering if its ok to upgrade to 245/35/19 all round. I know that most people will change the rears to 275/30/19 when they upgrade their wheels to 19'. I was just thinking since the car did not have staggered set-up originally, i would like to stick to the original similar set-up.
Looking forward to some advice.
Thanks.
Regards,
P.

It really depends on the size of the wheels you buy and the offset. If you run wacky offsets, your rear wheel might be way too inside the fender. Once you pick the correct wheel, then decide on tires.
IMO, you should run a stagger setup. It's a rear wheel drive car and you get better traction with staggered. Plus it looks cool too.

Hi prince_ramses,
Go for OEM sizes both with wheels and offset - you'll save yourself a lot of trouble and money!
245/35 front and 275/30 rear 19's are OK.
Non RF Bridgestone, Pirelli or Michelin tyres will do the job.

Go staggered if its just for looks, but dont feel obliged.
245s all round will be fine.
The only reason why BMW went the staggered route was to reduce the likelyhood of Mr/Mrs Average from punting his/her powerful RWD car backwards through a hedge.
In a car with a more modest power output an "over tyred" car will just be less fun to drive and lose the neutral handling balance.

* By the way, nice colour, its really unique. Have not seen a M-Sport version in metalic green.

Never had a green car before but this one is great.
Its like an "old skool" classic BMW colour but everyone seems more interested in Carbon Black and the greys these days
