So.. to make a long story short, someone hit and run my rear bumper this afternoon. PISSED! I've already filed a report and I'm taking my car into the estimators tomorrow. The damage looks like enough for a new bumper and I don't think my insurance would let me "upgrade" my stock bumper to a mtech one. The question is, should I let them fix it all up while I eat the $300 deductible or should I just opt to buy a mtech rear bumper and pay for the whole thing myself. What seems more "logical"?

Take the money your insurance gives you for the rear bumpe and get an M-Tech or an umnitza rear!

just let them estimate the damage and give you a check. on avarage (i've had rear bumper hit before) the will give you $1000-$1200. You can pay 300 deductible, you can buy M-tech replica for $350 (Unmitza or Trinity), paint it and save some money for going out to celebrate a new bumper. That what i would do instead of just repairing the old one

Give you a check? my insurance wouldn't give me a check they would make the check payable to the body shop that would order the part after the repair has been done and they release the car back

Got back from my estimator. He says the bumper can be sanded and repainted again but one of the senors needs to be replaced at $300  . Total estimates are $1100. Now should I eat the $300 deductable or just go balls out for the mtech kit?

Unfortunately, they don't let you do that here. By their words, they don't want to appreciate the value of the car. It has to be "as it was before"

lol what?

what insurance do you have?

You can request a check just say you dont have time at the moment to get it fixed and want the check

my insurance USAA pays me directly and leaves it up to me to do whatever with the money

Wow.. consider yourself lucky. I think our insurance (ICBC) doesn't do that to avoid fraud. We have up to 2 years to get the repairs done and also it's probably because it was a hit and run. No one to blame = no request for a cheque.

even state farm did that for me if i requested a check

i think your insurance just wants to make sure you spend the money on the repairs which really isnt any of their business
