Need transmission help
I have a 2004 BMW 525i 6 speed auto. I was told that I would need to replace the valve body and conductor plate. I have a rebuilt unit. Can it be programmed to work in this car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is a conductor plate? The VB and mechatronic needs to be paired. If the remain is paired together then you should be able to put it in the car and be good. The VIN getting coded is optional. Do you have programming software to troubleshoot and code?
The black plastic plate that wraps around the valve body and fit in the conductor sleeve. I have software such as NCS expert and winkFp tool32.
So, if the valve body and plate are paired it doesn't matter if it goes in a different car? This rebuilt valve body is from a different car. I had read that this could not be done.
What matters is the valve body and mechatronic are paired. When you swap it out you should be able to start and drive the car. Once verified good then change the VIN.
I thought the valve body was the mechatronics. Do you mean the plastic plate with the TCM?
The black piece is the TCM/TCU or mechatronic which is attached to the valve body.

Thank you. You have cleared up so much confusion. The mechanic who diagnosed it called it a conductor plate.
As I google it I do see some call it a conductor plate. I've owned a BMW for 15 years fixing multiple transmissions and never heard it called that before so I learned something new. Heck I don't think the many thread hear about transmission issues call it that.

People near me won't work on BMW. They won't know what mechatronics is. You really have helped me going forward. This is the first transmission I have ever worked on, myself. I definitely feel a lot more confident.
