My Ride: 2006 550i...Black/Auburn, Premium Pkg, Comfort Access, Cold Weather Pkg, Active Steering, Heated Rear Seats
Default

Hey everyone, I have a 2006 550i stock with out the sport package. I had some aftermarket 20's on my car for the past few months. Looked good, but it was a bumpy ride and I could feel the weight. So I've decided that I want to improve performance and return to an OEM wheel. I have it narrowed down to the M6 wheels and have some OEM M6 wheels that I can buy, is this going to give me a better ride and performance? I have been told that the offset might not be the same. Any thoughts on this?

Also, I've read everything in the forums about tire size and see the recommended 245/35 19 in the front and 275/30 19 in the rear. How bad of a Gap is this going to give me? Will I need to lower it? and if so, how much would this run me?

That's all for now... any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

first off to the forum.

In regards to that tire size, 245/35 275/30...will fit fine, no issues, even if you decide to lower it. IMHO, you may want to lower your e60 since your car is non sport and because you want to improve the handling/performance. Other options to consider is coilovers, springs type: H&R and Eibach seem to be recc'd the most), and possibly sway bars. Great choice with the 167/M6 wheels...

Are you going for performance or do you care about the look of the car too? I think I'll stick with 19's if you want a little of both. 20's are only for show.

Hey everyone... I really appreciate all of the advice. Yes, I'm located just outside of DC in Bethesda, MD. Any idea of how much it would cost me to lower my car?
And Gene, you made me think of something. Since I don't have the sport package does this mean that my car rides a little higher? and if so, could i fit a larger tire on the wheels like 245/40 front and 275/35 rear? Another thing to think about is that I just took off aftermarket wheels where the tires were 245/35 20 front and 275/30 20 rear. So These were 20' and I had the same tire that I am about to put on the 19' M6 wheels. So does it make sense that i could go a little bigger?

I would think you could go bigger with the treads...but again, if you want to get the most performance and handling...I would go with the recc'd tire size, drop, and sway bars ...

to the board. With you not having the sport-OEM suspension, I would suggest looking at after-market springs and struts. Lots of folks have had great success with Eibachs and H&Rs.
