My Ride: 2008 550i M-sport, retrofitted heated M-sport steering wheel with paddles, Sport-auto transmission
SAT Retrofit Thread
It's a long thread, but covers everything required to install the SAT shifter (which you appear to have already done) and add the paddle-shifter steering wheel. Both myself and NavarrOne have successfully completed the complete retrofits with the paddle-shifters. Heck, I even added the heated m-sport wheel from 2009+ models while I was at it, because it gets COLD here in Winterpeg!

Bert,
The SIB is a service bulletin that provides updated information on the correct wiring of the SZL (steering column switch cluster/module) to the rest of the car, as the information in the BMW wiring diagrams provided to dealers had an error. A PDF of the service bulletin is included in the thread.
To get the heated wheel functionality, I had to add a new:
I don't have the part numbers handy, but a quick search on realoem.com will turn up the appropriate numbers with the heating functionality.

To get the heated wheel functionality, I had to add a new:
- steering wheel adjuster switch - the switch unit that allows you to move the steering wheel also houses the heater on/off switch, so I had to replace with one that had the heater button
- spring coil pack - connection from the steering wheel buttons/wiring to the steering column SZL unit. My original car did not have heated wheel, so the spring coil needed to be changed to one that had the extra connections for the heater

Bert,
You need part number 61316947788 with both the steering wheel adjustment and heater switch on it. It will fit into the existing space where your current switch is (which probably only has the adjuster?).
It's the middle one in this link.

Bert,
You should hunt down an online WDS (wiring diagram) to see where the switches connect. All my work was done by the dealer, so I don't know where the connections are.
Good luck!

I did need this part (actually the replacement part 61319204504), but didn't include it earlier in the thread as I needed it only for the addition of the heating function, not for the SAT paddles. This is the SZL unit referred to earlier.
