Hi all

I have a 2005 E60 with business nav with no factory CD changer. I'm contemplating an iPod adaptor install, and my first step is to get the car coded for CDC and MP3 by my dealer ( I have a CDC given to me...)

However on examining the wiring, I have only managed to locate the power supply meant for the CDC. The nearest thing to the fibre optic cable is a LOOP of corrugated plastic, and I can't find the ends of it with the plug. I encountered resistance by pulling at both ends

How and where do I get the fibre optic connections from? Do I have to remove the glove box and undertray?

Maybe this picture will help clear things out..... Thanking in advance

The MOST fiber is inside that corrugate plastic. You need to remove that MOST connector (black straight connector) and then switch your car on to figure out which one is the light source - one end will shine red and other wont. Put the one that shines red into the CDC connector which has the arrow going toward the CDC and the other one goes in the one where the arrow is coming out of the CDC connector. Dont worry about all the errors you will receive when you break the MOST bus (e,g, SOS failure, telephone failure etc). Then put your CDC in and get the car recoded.

However Dension claim that you can get the car coded for iPOD even with the Gateway 500 installed directly because the 500 announces itself as the iPOD device to the car. Try this first because they other people dont have to go hunting for the CDC unit just to install the Dension.

Thanks Bruce for your reply.

I'll give it a go later today....

I'll also come back regarding the Dension 'self-coding' feature.

I can confirm this. I have installed GW500 without CDC or CDC preparation.

kekkos,

did you have to purchase an adaptor for the fibre optic / MOST cables?

my car also did not have CDC from factory and the cables are in a continuous loop (please see picture in first post). i wonder if i need an adaptor for them once i break the connection as bruce has suggested in an earlier post?

If you are going to break that current fiber loop you need a small ends which will house those two fiber cable then goes into bigger housing plug that has the power and together they go to either CDC or iPod module.

Dension GW500 comes w/ 2 sets of fiber cables plus some various ends & plugs so per Bruce & kekkos if you going to connect it directly to GW500 you can use the extra adaptor plug from GW500 pkg.

GL!

Yes I tried this way and all good!

I connect GW500 using installation Type 3b since I have CDC prep, take the OEM fiber connector out of BMW plug and put it into the plug from GW500 pkg them connect it to Car side plug on GW500 module, set the dip switch 1,2 & 6 up/on position and leave the GW500 service switch selector at GW500 mode (not the Service/CDC mode) then supply power properly of course .

During retrofit programming make sure to select iPod retrofit option NOT CDC otherwise you'll get error, I was standing next to the programming station w/ the technician and 'bout +/- 2 mins. later all done.

You already have that adaptor. Its actually connected to your power wires. Infact if you are going directly with the GW500 you can ignore that CDC adaptor completely and break the loop and put it directly into the GW500 adaptor. You wont even need the loop back from the gateway to the CDC. The default mode is the GW500 mode so infact if you dont connect that switch box your GW500 will be in GW mode all the time which is what you want. I don't know what will happen if you switch that to CDC when you dont actually have one connected.

Bruce or 66BXQ,

I have the exact same wiring set up as 666BXQ. Your instructions bring up the following questions:

1. How do I remove the MOST connector? Break it??
2. What will I see when I remove it?
3. Do the two ends have some sort of connectors on them?
3. How do the fiber optic cables fit into the CDC connector?

Thanks and Cheers!
