Didn't they send you something that specifies the fees? I believe it's $10 if you have it removed and get it checked off but I don't remember how much the other option was. But it should be on the notice they send you.
I would try to find someone who knows a police officer and hope they just write it off for you.

You should go to 35% on a Jet Black car. 20% on Jet Black is just asking for it. I had 35% Llumar on my Jet Black E39 and never got a ticket when I lived in Cali. I have it on my E60 and still nothing. You should remove it and go to 35%. It's still plenty dark, esp at night.

This forum is full of cops and ex-cops (see some old threads). Someone must know.
If I were you, I would remove the tint. If they gave you a tint ticket then I bet your licence plate is all over the place and they will be looking for you again for tint ticket #2 and #3 and #4 and ......#10.

I'll let you borrow my car for $200 bucks. Haha.
The fine is a lot. $200+
The fix it ticket alone is $10 but they need to inspect your car that it's been removed. You must have done something to attract them because they rarely issue just a tint ticket. They usually tag it along with a speeding ticket.

Sorry Black525i,
I was speaking for "others" that have done what I suggested and gotten away with it. I don't have tinting myself for the very reason you are going thru! I went for the side and rear sun shades instead. So, just do as most everyone is recommending and either have hyour tinting removed or pay the fine and leave it. Good luck, either way!

How on earth she saw that in a black car with 20% tint?
