I've had my 550i for 4 months now and love it to death. About once a month, I will take the car through the hills and country where I can put my foot down and enjoy some windy roads. I'm now planning to do a pilgrimage to a particular part of the country I'm in where I can really really push the car hard, especially through some windy roads, might be on a track, might be some other place

I'm not after more power, as I'm quite happy with what I have now. What I'm after is more stability and less body roll so that I can take on some really windy roads with more ease. So, I'm thinking:
- H&R race springs, instead of the sports springs that I have.
- H&R sway bars
- Wider tyres than the 245 & 275 that I have now, and use spacers. Am thinking of Yokohama Advan Sports 255 & 285.
- Brembo brakes

I was also thinking of only using the above equipment whenever I go for my pilgrimage. For normal day to day driving I'll just use the equipment that I have now. So, aside from the cost for the new equipment, I'll be up for some labour cost to swap the equipment around.

My questions are:
1. Will the equipment I've listed give me better performance around the turns?
2. Is it practical to run two sets of equipment and pay for labour to do the swaps?
3. What balancing or tuning may be required after swaping a set of equipment?

BTW, this is just at concept stage and I haven't thrown any $$ at this. As I have no interest to get a seperate 'fun' car I thought modding my car is a good compromise. I have no experience in modding cars so your assitance would be appreciated!

nice mods in mind. theyll definitely give an improvement concerning the performance in turns. not only will there be way less body roll during the turns due to the springs and sway bars, but with the springs alone, dipping and nose diving during accelerating and braking will be greatly reduced. especially the H&R springs, i heard theyre pretty stiff. spacers alone are purely for cosmetic looks, but they may make a slight difference by giving the car a wider stance.

after swapping springs, it's highly recommended to get an alignment done after the springs settle. springs settle after about a week after installation or after 200-300 miles of driving on them. once you put them on, i would say keep the set-up that way. you have the looks and performance you wanted, so keep it. hope this helps. and good luck.

Thanks for the input! Aside from H&R, what other brands of springs or sway bard should I consider?

Well, there is also Eibach. H&R and Eibach happen to be the most popular springs for the e60. Next, you have coilovers: Bilsteins pss9, H&R, or KW variant 3.

Thanks. What do coil overs do in addition to the springs?

Sway bars and struts will be night and day difference, eliminates body roll. My buddy put sway bars and strut braces on his M3, I thought it couldn't get any better than the M suspension. I was wrong, the thing corners like crazy, and abrupt lane changes are quick as hell, no body roll. Combination sway bars and struts will increase stability 100%. No need to change tire width if you do both mods. You can also do the Stage 1 Dinan Suspension Kit for the same price of a coilover set up, I am sure it does a number on the car. Plus it gets you half way to 10 points for the rare Dinan badge. Dinan has everything for your car. Try the Dinan website, Link: http://www.dinancars.com/Series.asp?Series...0&Model=101
