Thanks for the compliements guys. For those of you with the questions about where I got particular things, the captions above the pics should explain it.
Shadowline is halfway done. I used bmwshadowline.com's vinyl tape. Easy to do well, almost impossible to do perfectly.
teaser pics:

Just like fashion accessories, designer haircuts, expensive shoes and newer iterations of the iphone, it's about form rather than function. The thinking was that I thought it would look good and I wanted to see them on my car. No m5 pretending, I actually received M5 logo's for the vents but chose not to add them. Yes, it is posing in an expensive way, akin to adding yellow stickers to a stock Civic. But again, I just love the look of those 'vents'. I could afford an M5, but I needed xdrive and want a daily driver with reasonable MPG. I can tell by your tone you're not a fan, and I respect that. I considered your perspective before adding them, but I smile every time I'm walking up to my car and see those "vents to nowhere"
I think you're gonna love when I add the NVD M5 replica mirrors.

Well, I do likethe shadowline and the other stuff is nice too.
Call it semantics but the examples you mentioned are all the actual item, not different items altered to look like another well known item. I doubt you would consider gluing an iconic thingy onto a shoe, an apple logo onto an HP, or even worse, hair onto your head that isn't yours
As for form rather than function, I think it could be sweet if you got some GT racing fenders instead. They might not help you go faster but they would look awesome
Or having some engine work done that could make use of real vents, then I'd be behind it 100%.
Go ahead, you can pick on my 18" M3 oem wheels on the e61
They were the best looking, best offset 18" that was a little wider and were already dark thus not requiring painting. However, I also spent $ on a custom built 2" hitch.

If they are "pointy" rather than squarish, like oem, then I wouldn't like them regardless. The squarish oem e60/61 mirrors perfectly suit the car styling and offer better viewing.
Before that though, please get a quad exhaust or go back to a single side exit rear bumper.
