There is a piece that attaches to the center console trim that is not visible unless you remove the trim. To get the dock to sit there, I removed that piece. It simply unscrews. My ideal install would be to sit the dock low enough in the same spot that it could be covered with the ashtray. This wont work without a lot of cutting. Too scared for that.

I am thinking of centering the iPod, but I need to come up with a way to still allow easy access to the 12v outlet.

I am very happy with the install... I just need to hardwire the charger...

Also, the dock is secured with black velcro (unseen) so no problem with it sliding around. And once I noticed you could see some cabling behind the dock, I readjusted... No wires visible now!

Let me know if you have any questions...

Getting the courage to remove that first piece of trim is always the hardest. Soon you'll be carving out pieces with a Dremel with the best of us...

My car came with wood trim. I replaced it all with aluminum. Good obeservation! Can you believe that BMW does not sell that piece in aluminum??? I have a blcak one on order!

I used the rear outlet because I rarely have people in the back seat and i want to keep the front one free for other things.

Forgot to mention... I am using www.colorwarepc.com to paint the dock and the iPod jet black (matches the car).
