Thumbs up

hey guys, im doing another write up cause i have updated my regular headlights to euro lights. or i tried my best. as you know, my other thread is http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=29541 and you will see rodybmw was not that much of a help again with no diy, therefore, i stayed up till 3am today to perfect my mistake. THE OUTCOME... Look for yourselves. Honestly I think it looks so much better. heres my diy and judge for yourselves.

DIY: Do-It-Yourselves

What you need:
Scissors
Hobby Knife, or Xacto Knife, Or similar tool of your choice.
Pinstripes: 1/4" Silver Metallic, 1/8" Chrome (rodybmw advice) , 5/16" Silver Metallic (my advice) come in sizes of 1/8 and something thinner which i do not know exactly what the size is, but it comes with both sizes on the rolls. buy the 5/16 package for the chrome., 3/16" Silver(rodybmw claims that pepboys carry it, but visiting numerous stores, I had no luck... plus i never seen anything of that size with any other colors fyi.)
Painters Tape (it will help you guide your lines.)
Cleaning tools (to clean headlights of your choice.)
"No-Life" because you will have to spend about 6-7hours of your life doing this

Lets get started:

1. First clean the headlights, dirts and contaminants have to be gone for the pinstripes to stay on firm.
2. Then get a piece of 1/8" pinstripe of silver, or chrome of your choice, i started with silver, lay over and over again, alternating the colors from silver to chrome to silver to chrome. I started by laying over the black line of the headlight, because this seemed to reduce the amber reflecting even better, but thats what i did, so look in the picture and tell me you dont like it. by the way, if you get the first line the way you want it, the following line will be easier, but not by a whole lot.

3. Then after carefully "pinstriping" you will have excess pinstriping, in which the xacto knife comes into play, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I AM NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE OR HELD LIABLE FOR SCRATCHING YOUR HEADLIGHTS! This part is the most tedious part of the job, you have to cut lightly, the truth is the chrome is harder to cut, but it can be done. the outline where you cut it is where the black line is. if you look at your headlights, you will notice the black line around the amber reflector. you can use it as a guide. Once you cut it off, you will have the finished product.

If you have any questions or dont like it, dont do it, and or ask rodybmw to show you guys how he did it, because he did not help me. :'(

4. FINISHED PRODUCT Enjoy, any feedbacks will be appreciated.

How nice of you to take responsibility for the scratches others might make on their cars -- that's something you never see these days...

Given the preponsity everyone has for modding on this forum I have a feeling that there are a bunch of European owners who would want to swap their lights for the US versions and vice versa. We just somehow need to organise it so we're not all driving around lightless while our lights are flying across the Atlantic.

Someone from Europe mentioned that before and I asked if anyone wanted to trade for my US-spec lights but no luck.

IF ANYONE'S INTERESTED IN US-SPEC HEADLIGHTS WITH THE "BEAUTIFUL" AMBER REFLECTORS, LET ME KNOW!!!!

I've ordered my euro-spec lights already. Should be here next week or so.

Hey bmw4life,
What's to stop someone from peeling off the pinstripes? Hmm... you might go to the Socal Meet with the "Euro" headlights and end up leaving with the good ole US amber headlights.
