I apologize if this is old news, but I recently stumbled upon this website V1 Color Display and had my V1 modified to the below specs:
This is not my actual V1 detector, but I chose to mimic its setup. Each band of radar/laser now has a specific color as well as the signal strength meter being color coded. I don't have trouble differentiating the tones for each band, but this mod is a must if cruising with the windows down or the tunes pumping. I realize that similar remote displays are available on eBay, but this guy (who wishes to remain anonymous) will modify your detector without the need to purchase a concealed display. I also want to say that I am in no way affiliated with the website or its member languy99, just a very satisfied customer spreading the word.

That's cool, but my V1 does not light up at all. I have a concealed display unit by the tach display.
You don't want to be tailed because other drivers know you have a radar detector.

Jason - He posted this last year. I'd be concerned sending someone I don't know my V1. Any feedback from anyone who has done this recently?
PS - Your M5 looks SICK!

He can mod the concealed display for you as well.
I like it . I'm interested if the price is right. Can you send his contact info.
Thanks.

Although it looks cool/colorful, I don't think it's a "must for any V1 owners"...
I'm able to understand my V1 just fine without the need for fancy colors, etc. Also, keep in mind that Valentine offers pro-rated upgrades as they improve the design or add features. I'm sure once this mod is performed, they would tell you to start over again and buy a new unit if you wanted an upgrade.
