mp3 question again

Folks,
I am looking for a simple answer if I can get one, so one more try !
If I install the professional series cd player / head unit in my car can I get mp3 capability retrofitted ?
Someone on here must know the requirements for mp3 retrofit. I am aware of the details in bulletin released by BMW and my car does not meet that criteria, but surely if I install the correct hardware I can make this work.
What I am not sure of is what the correct hardware is. I have no problem replacing the cd player / head unit but I don't fancy having to put in an entire ccc / pro nav unit as that would likely mean having to replace the display as well.... gulp !
