Its seems no BMW 5 Series drivers tow boats, caravans, or utility trailers! actually when I went on a caravan towing course three of the cars were 5 Series but they all had after market tow bars fitted I guess the BMW fit items are too expensive normally.
At least it's somewhat common to haul a caravan with your bimmer (or any other sedan) on the other side of the pond. I talked to someone here [in the US] about getting a tow bar for my e60 - all I get are blank stares or "why don't you get a pick-up truck or a jeep?"

Funny you mention "Jeep"; my 2008 Jeep JK Wrangler will tow only 2,500 pounds ... or almost half of what my 545i can tow.

I found a trailer hitch for under $200US but is not the electronic concealed one...

i have a big SUV, but sometimes i want to tow a small boat for a vacation and do not want to drive our big suburban.

I have not been able to found out any info on hooking up the wiring for the lights...does anyone have details or a wiring diagram for this?

Just my option, why in the world would you tow with a sedan? The logic makes no sense at all!

Hey, do you have some documentation on the wiring? I'm trying same but I have also taken both controllers and all the cabling from the LCI model.

BMW 5 Series Estate E61 2004 on Westfalia Detachable tow bar

Ships worldwide, has multiple options for EU 7/13 pins. The wiring instructions on site from Westfalia, have wiring color coding so perhaps matching to US 7pin.

http://www.westfalia-automotive.de/f...391101-004.pdf

Also Curt Towbars has a 200lb tow hitch and wiring that hooks up in trunk/wagon rear to the tailight wires.

Default Why tow with a 5 series

Some of us do not want to own a tow vehicle that gets used only 4-6 times a year. That is horrible for the environment, bad for the pocket book, and in my case I'd have to add a 6th spot in my garage (which would cost more than the tow vehicle itself).

Pulling boats, race cars, caravans, etc. is perfectly in line with a 5 series salon!

Hi,

I have removed my tow-bar and could have it for sale in EU with full wiring etc.

Please consider, that it is not really possible to have this electronic goodie with the m rear bumper. This was the main reason I had to remove it.
