My Ride: 2007 550i, Mystic Blue over Auburn, 6-Manual, Sports, Premium, Cold Weather, Logic 7, Nav, Sirius, MTec Front & Sides with M5 rear apron, VIS Penta carbon fiber vented hood, OEM M166s, (or Style 101M with winter 19 Blizzaks), BMW Blue Calipers, Custom Quad Exhaust and M5 side grills, trunk finisher and spoiler. Rogue Octane SSK/WSR and Zeckhausen CDV, BMW illuminated shift knob, Delivered 4/26/06 - Ordered 3/18/06 from Otto's (the Best) BMW Dealership.
Can't leave "perfect" alone. Spent a couple hours detailing the calipers in BMW blue and painting lower grill insert silver. Looks GREAT!
Remember to remove the caliper clips, clean, paint, clear coat and reinstall after the caliper paint is dry. I use silver engine paint on the clips and a high temp polymer caliper paint from a kit. It brushes on and if you're careful to clean it well before starting they should last years. Total investment is 3 hours and $15.
For the grill inserts, the center piece removes in 2 seconds by hand, and the outer edges can be removed or with masking tape done in place. I used a bumper paint bomb and took my time, then clear coated. Total investment is 1 hour and $5.
Now it won't get me to forego the M-Aero kit as planned, but it'll look better in the next few months before I get around to it.

You did have to remove the caliper completely out , correct? where did you buy caliper paint from that matched your color?

While I was there I also polished the rotor hubs as they are beautiful aluminum with rivets on the 550 and clearcoated that with an engine paint to keep them looking fresh. The clips were painted aluminum color (from Eastwood) and then clear coated. They look great in contrast against the black pads (with factory lettering) and the blue caliper castings, a nice detail.
The kit I used was bought ($15) at our local version of chain auto supply (called PepBoys) and is made by DupliColor, claimed to be ceramic polymer caliper paint or some such hype. It's very thick and sets up quickly and looks very hard and shiny. I did my 528is 3 years ago and they still look new. DupliColor cleverly calls the color "BLUE" and it's is a decent match but it is a bit darker than the roundel.
Well worth it for other nuts like me who hate to see thru a wheel into corrosion, but not so bold as red or gold. I've done silver too and it also looks great but my Mystic Blue seemed to call for matching calipers.
I'm actually more impressed with the silver grill inserts- completely different look to the car with such a simple mod. Good luck!
