Performance on a budget and BMW's usually cancel each other out, sorry Bro. Typically when a member here wants mods "on a budget", that budget is significantly different than say on a Honda Civic forum. Not much on these cars is "cheap". It would help if you could state your intended budget, keeping in mind not everything needs to get done at once to have a positive effect on performance, for example:
RPI Scoop/BMC filter ~$200 from Trinity Autosport = around +5HP and you probably feel more when at speed RPI Exhaust ~$800 (also from Trinity) = about +12 HP Brake upgrade (better pads/rotors) ~$650, definitely noticeable See? It all depends what you mean by not "breaking the bank", you can go all the way up to a Supercharger kit for ~$16,000 |
step 1: sell 545i
step 2: purchase E60 M5 if that isn't an option for you, I highly recommend just enjoying the power you have. As OP mentioned, 'performance mods' and 'not breaking the bank' do not belong in the same sentence when it comes to modding BMWs. Sad, but true. |
Ask yourself what kind of performance do you want to gain/improve, and how much money you are willing to obtain that performance!
Anything that will significantly improve performance (tires, suspension, tune) is going to require some $$. You won't realize the benefit of an intake or small performance mod unless it's part of a larger overall performance upgrade. |
