Hey guys... this is the first time im going to replace the two Microfilters for the cabin air. The dealer said they wanted $55.00 for each so thats $110.00 for the parts. As I have read on the forums I can just replace them myself and reset the I-Drive.

MY QUESTION: Are there any aftermarket Microfilters that are better than the BMW ones? Should I stick to OEM?

Thanks.

I just had mine replaced under warranty for free, but if/when they need to be replaced again I'm sure as hell not paying $55 each ($110 total) for some damn filters. I think I'll just reset the idrive indicator and move on. Not worth it at that price if you ask me.

Here's where I plan on ordering from:

www.pelicanparts.com

The cheapest one for my 2005 530i is $17.75ea, or with activated carbon it would be $34.50 ea. Orders over $75 get free shipping so stock up on some other items as well

I got aftermarket carbon ones and I ended up smelling other car's exhausts. I ordered the BMW ones online for about $37/ea and no more smell. they weigh almost 2x what the aftermarket ones weigh and have a much better foam seal around the borders.

you get what you pay for.

Their prices for Mann filters are about what I've paid in the past for oil / fuel filters from other reputable import part sellers.
I don't think BMW actually manufactures oil, air, microfilters ... but brands those manufactured to their specs by other companies.

If you purchase OEM quality parts from reputable manufacturers (watch out for cheap knock-offs ... they're out there) you won't be disappointed.

"I don't think BMW actually manufactures oil, air, microfilters ... but brands those manufactured to their specs by other companies. "

The only thing BMW makes on our cars are the sheet metal and engines, and even most of the internal engine parts aren't made by BMW! That pretty much goes for any car manufacturer for that matter. Most of the time there is no sense in paying 2-3X the cost of an aftermarket part just because the genuine part has the BMW logo on it. Case in point: Spark Plugs. Why pay $20 at the dealer for the same NGK or Bosch plug that you can get at Autozone for $8.00?

In terms of parts suppliers, I've used Autohaus Arizona for years and have been very satisfied with their service and pricing.

Autohaus Az

The activated charcoal cabin filters for my 2006 530i are listed at $31/each, and they offer free UPS ground shipping on orders of $50 or more.

Good luck.
