I was wondering the same thing months back when I swapped out my kidneys and side gills.

I went with OEM BMW Performance gloss black kidneys and I had IND paint the OEM side gills gloss black as well. Why? I wanted OEM fitment and quality. I really didn't like the plastic, kidneys or gills, plus the gloss black matches my window sills/surround and underneath my mirror caps.

I'm on my second matte black set, been wanting to have it custom-painted, but looking at this gloss black one, i'm thinking "maybe that's all I need"

I didnt buy new ones. I sanded mine down and painted it matte black first. Didnt like it too much so I got it painted gloss. Yes, those are the original grills disguised by a professional paint job.
