In my quest to make my 535d even quicker I just finished fitting an Ford RS500 intercooler. The reuslts are amazing but now my problem is Coolant temperature. As you can see from the pic my intercooler cover 90% of the radiator as a result my coolant temps are going higher than I like.

Driving normal they are 86 -90 dec C ( normal) If i go for a good thrash, conbination of slow speed full throttle pulls and a couple of straights my temp rises to 101 dec C. I cant get it any higher than that but I feel they are just a bit high.

I used to run a cossie with the same setup and never had a n issue with temps so was hoping for the same here, but not so lucky. I think it is the 70mm deep core that is the problem. Great for cooling not so great for the radiator

Any of you guys in the hotter countries know what your coolant temps sit @ or even a fewllow 535d owner in any country just to give me an idea. Yes I should have logged them before I started but a bit late now :whistle:

I am going to try and duct more air in throught the lower sides if the fron grill where I have drilled out the blanking plates see if that helps.

Try to see if you can get a lip or chin spoiler to mount underneath your car, kinda where the splash cover is, and mount the spoiler so that it deflects air into the radiator . you could use some scrap aluminum or sheetmetal and give it a nice bend or trace a template and cut it out from your splash guard. Hopefully :ermm:

You can't spray that intercooler black? As for the radiator...? :unsure:

You can always try adding a push/pull electric fan in between the intercooler and the radiator. A company here called BeCool sells pretty good high volume universal electric fans - you can try to contact them. I had an Accord I raced in SCCA and I ran a fan inline between the intercooler and radiator for some added cooling (it's pretty bad to overheat during a race). Good luck.

Problem fixed, I put 2 x 3 " hoses in the bottom grill round the back of the intercooler and blowing onto the radiator. Everything is back to normal again.

Will have a look at Becool.

Why dont u get a after market intercooler that is short in height and wider in width.

no aftermarket FMIC's available for the 535i just yet. They are available for the 135i and 335i, but their are some oil lines on the 535i that would get int the way of installing an FMIC....


OP, can we get some more pics of the IC you installed please...are using a piggyback tune or ecu flash to run extra boost as well?

2, why should I pay over ?600 for something I can buy for less then ?250. The intercooler i bought won a intercooler shoot out over 7 other intercoolers so I know it is very good and affordable.

The whole conversion cost me ?300 yes it is causing me greif but diy power usually does.

Paying the extra would be easy no point in that :whistle:
