Today, I stopped by EuroAuto in Gardena, CA to look for new rims for my E60. Tim suggested M6 replicas for my E60 instead of 166M wheels. I decided to put 245 35 19 Toyo TR1 and 285 30 19 TR1 Toyo on back. The wheels are from Moven "German" company. The whole setup produced a picture perfect look. I love 5 spoke look on E60's. I also wanted to look bit different from other E60's anyway. The new Toyo tires were firm and less bumpy than old RFTs, but at various speeds, I noticed buzzing from the steering wheel. It happened at various speeds like 25mph, 40mph, 65mph, and 80mph in various areas of Socal Fwys. The shop used hub rings to make perfit fit and balance of wheels were perfect at time of installation. The tire pressures were 40lbs for all 4 tires. The buzzing is not constant and come out at various speed for short duration. I have no clues for this problem. I am suspecting may be too high of tire pressure caused bumpy ride in rough surface areas of the freeways. Anyone have any ideas?

By the way, I just installed M5 wheel with paddles. Thx my530i "Fred". Easy installation due to DVD instruction.

My Ride: 535d Sport, carbon black, media pack, visibility pack, grey leather, heated seats, sun protection glass, voice control, Eibach ProKit, 19" 166 style wheels, e-maps ECU remap to 325hp and 640NM, top speed limiter removed

the 40psi for the rears is correct, I'd take the fronts down to 36psi.
Makes a much better ride, especially when cornering fast. Fast cornering with bouncing front wheels is no fun.
Not sure what that buzzing is about.

I takes great skill to mount large, low profile tyres on large wheels.

The most sensitive speed is about 90 km/h or about 55 mph.

If you have problems even at lower speeds and higher,
the problem is very bad

Pirelli's used to have problems with uneven quality on their tyres, it was simply
inpossible to get them balanced right.
Maybe your set of Toyo's (not the best brand there is) have the same problem.

Also the wheels could be defected.

The third thing that can go wrong is the installition of the wheels to the car.

Are the bolts in momentum?

The tyre pressure should not have a impact on shaking the steering wheel.

You should go for the pressures found in owners manual, that means more
pressure in the rear tyres.
When riding with less than 4 persons in the car use the lower pressure plus
some 10-15 %.
Try out what seems to be the best value for your car.

The worst thing would be that you have a chassi problem in the front,
but if you didn't have any problems before changing wheels - it's the tyres!?

Well, I spoke to the technician. His reply; "Lower profile tires tended to create road vibrations with higher psi in front tires. So I reduced the front tire psi to 36lbs and vibration almost disappeared to nothing. I felt the initial vibrations during high speed curve and in one of those new freeway section. I drove the car in section of road with smoother and flatter surface. "No vibrations or buzz." I am very happy! Well I just pick up a cannon Eos20D camera. where do we post our pictures? Do we have any allowable space in E60.net?

Only thing left is M5 mirrors. My local dealer gave me a quote of $175.00 for M5 driver side switch panel to activate the auto fold option.

Final word of the day is "MONEY PIT". :'(

Good to heard that you fixed your wheel vibrations problem! I am thinking changing my rear tire from 275 to 285, please show us some pic for your M6 wheels!

My E60 also emptied my wallet, haha!!

$175 for mirror activation is not as bad. Go for it.

I think the pressure is still way too high for such a low profile tire. 40 psi is what I put in a big SUV tire to carry weight.

I believe the owners manual has slightly different information than the door tag. My tag for 19" tires says 32 front/35 rear. I run my 166M's at that pressure and they ride and handle very good.
