My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.

I have been seriously considering the Hamann dual exhaust. Although it looks and sounds great, it is kind of a band-aide to a dual exhaust system. I know there may be some fit problems with actually putting a muffler on the passenger side.

Does anyone know if the M5 mufflers can be purchased and fitted to an e60-545i?

And, what are the concerns?

Depends bro, for HMN you need their rear apron, or you cut it as Eisenmann did it, see their homepage for 545i.

The best seem to mix M tech with RD or just buy RD, as for HMN you need the 4 pipes and the rear a bit costy... -but I am thinking of it next year

Can't be done--the non-M spare tire area gets in the way. That's why the non-M E60 "dual exhausts" are cosmetic only. You can see from this M5 pic (Eisenmann exhaust) how much smaller the area where the spare tire would have gone is:

Get the RDSport Quad Exhaust conversion. Edit: Unlike the Eisenmann, it has a X-pipe that equalizes the exhaust flow to two different mufflers. Here's the pic of the RDSport, $2,600.

So the M5 has no room in the trunk for a spare I take it?

Correct--it comes with the can-o-goo and air pump.

Given as how I have no spire tire either, I went to Pep Boys to look for a can a goo for myself, but every single one said not to use it on performance tires. Is the BMW goo something special?

My E55 also didn't have a spare and had the goo, as does the new Porsche Carrera (997), so I'd suggest getting it from BMW--plus you'll need an air pump if you don't have one.

Thanks. I like the way the RDS is configured. I was not real keen on the Hamann or Eisenmann.

How is the sound?

I don't know to be honest. You might want to check with their SoCal distributor, Carrozzeria Desigh in Irvine. Since I already have the MTech rear bumper with only one outlet, I was checking on their Sports Silencer (first pic below) but they don't have that for the 545 yet. Probably not till Dec.

If you're really into it, you could get their full Power Exhaust which includes exhaust manifolds, 100 cell high flow cats as well as the quad exhaust conversion I showed above. Look at the second pic here.
