Hi members!

M5 cluster and reprogramming..

How many of you updated the car simply replugging the E60 factory cluster and then replug the M5 one at the end?

Any trouble with the different mileage (I put the M5 kombi 4 yrs ago, the factory cluster is in the box since then)?

Thanks.

I had in an M5 cluster for a few months. When I put the original back in and the mileage was perfect. Not dot or anything. No programming required. I had an 04 545i btw.

The point is not to come back to the factory cluster, BUT to reprogram the car if you have the M5 cluster.
The recipe must be replug the old one, then program, then replug the M5 one at the end. I was just looking for a confirm.

Oh, you want to install one. I thought u were just trying to revert back to the old one. I did a lot of research on this about 1.5 yrs ago. You have a couple options:

*new cluster, brand new. Have your car reprogrammed and in mid-process you have to swap out the old cluster for the new one when it comes time to program the Kombi unit. There's a member that had this done. I forget who but he had a whole thread on it. This is VERY pricey given the amount of money a brand new M5 cluster costs.

*buy a used cluster and have a new chip soldered and coded for your car. There was someone in Canada doing this for like $500 or $600. Still cost prohibitive if you ask me but do your research and you might find who still does it. It's kinda tricky from what I hear bc if done wrong you can fry the whole unit quite easily.

*buy a used cluster and just install the damn thing plug & play. But depending on your options and the donor cars options u will get done errors on start-up. I just went this route personally. It cost me just the one time fee dif this cluster and I popped it in myself. Done. But I had to live with the errors on start up so...

Good luck whichever route you choose!

Probably I can't be clear enough.
I already have an M5 cluster installed on my car. Since... 2008.

Now.. If you want to upgrade the SW on the car, you must remove it because the dealer system would recognize you have a part from another car (M5).

I know it is the correct way to go, but I was looking for someone who already experienced this.
