Hey guy, I was wondering if someone with the mtech front bumper could measure the distance from the bottom of the bumper to the ground? i've got sport package with standard 17", and am considering getting the kit, but my garage has an abrupt incline at the entrance and it could mean that im scraping the front everyday if i do get it. please let me know how the kit has been holding up in city life (im from la).
Oh an can someone throw out some figures for the paint job too? thanks a lot

Welcome aboard, glad you joined us. Congrats on the new 550i.

By the way, if you have the 550i Sport, you have 18" style 124 wheels.

I have a 2006 550i Sport with the M Kit, and while I don't have an exact measurement of the clearance, I have a 4" curb in my garage and the Kit clears that by about 1", maybe a bit less.

Enjoy your new ride!

thanks tach, this forum is becoming the biggest drain on my productivity. anyways, anyone else have any input?

and another question, does anyone know if an m5 rear bumper will bolt directly onto my e60 with no modifications?

I wouldn't worry about it. Even if you did scrape, you can go at it at an angle and be okay.

I'm running a super aggressive setup and my front nose is 4 inches off the ground. I don't scrap anywhere except those plaza entrances that are really high. Once I get my mtech kit on, I'm figuring my front will be 3-3.5 off the ground in the front. Just drive carefully!

If you are worried about scrapping, just always reverse into your garage.

steve I believe the M5 is a tad wider at the fenders so the mounts may not be at the same places.

The M5 rear bumper will fit without any modifications to a stock e60.

Yeah, it's the front M5 bumper that needs modification to fit on stock E60 fenders.

As to your initial question, I just went and measured and it's about 7" in the center and 6.5" on the sides. The thing is my car has 20s but it's lowered so I'm not sure how that compares to a stock car with the kit. But like MikeBuzzsaw said, to be safe, approach driveways and speedbumps at a slight angle and you should be fine. My car also has the Hamann splitter which is even lower to the ground.
