I have been pricing around for have the M-Tech kit installed on my 08 535xi.

My local dealer said MSRP for ALL the parts necessary is $2245. They want 8 hours labor for the install @ $112/hr, so $896. They want $1200 for the paint, which is subbed out to one of the better body shops in town. According to them this is a straight cost pass through, so there is no way to get a break on this.

After some whining they said they would do 15% off parts/labor, which would take the price from $4341 to $3870 painted and installed. Obviously I could save myself an extra 10% on the parts by ordering through BMW of Newport, although that may cause me to lose my 15% off on labor, so it probably wouldn't be worth the extra work to go through it for a relatively small savings.

My question is:

1. Is $1200 out of control for the paintwork?
2. Is 8 hours labor out of control for the install?

I am thinking it won't even be worth doing until after winter anyway, I am just trying to figure out what to think about this pricing.

Thanks!

buy the whole kit for your lci from eurorev painted and shipped to you for less than 2400. Install time needed for the mtech is approx 4.5 hours with 6 being the max. Dont get ripped off.

1200 for paint is fair, but like others said... you would save a lot of money if you purchased from one of the vendors here on the forum and installed it with a buddy.

I'm in Kansas City. I have spoken with Trinity, and honestly their pricing was no better than my local dealer (actually it was slightly worse).

I could get it from my dealer for roughly $3k painted and ready to go, then attempt the install myself. Anyone have any links to the DIY on the install? I am curious how difficult it would be...

Wow.. That is literally about $700 less than the quote I got from another vendor on here. Pretty big discrepancy. I wonder what the difference is?

If you look at the thread, just went up as a "year-end sale" GL
