Ok, I wouldn't do ...but sometimes (almost always) a want to check myself how will look, and then to decide, keep or ditch. So here it is. ...I think it looks better on a black car, also it is very well made I have to say.

Sorry for the blurry pic, but tihs is the only one I have for now.

If M5's were the only, or the first car on the road with side grilles your comment about posing might apply. I think in certain applications this looks good, but in any circumstance - to each their own.
+1 ...this grill is not functional on the M5 either. It's there just for the looks. There are no vents behind, it's just a boxed socket where the grill locks. So I think there is no need to cut the fenders just to catch the grill, when you can simply stick it at the same place. Yes it looks 1 mm raised, that's not a real problem....

Don't have to give up so easy... It's really that that big a deal or costly to add the grills- many have done it and it looks great... I get more compliments on those grills than on my MTec kit or even quad exhaust. When I stop at a light next to a kid or teenager you can see them check it out. Just don't badge it M5 and you're not posing.

Just my $.02

I don't know what the magnet ones look like (I wouldn't think of it) but mine are stock grills with the cutouts in the exact place the M are located. The fenders look "bare" without them in my mind- of course that's after looking at them for 18 months but they are much more aggressive looking and BMW shoudl have added these stock-
