Has any had the LPG coversion or lookd into it?
With Petrol now at ?1 per gallon and the conversions costing about ?2000 it croses my mind that it miht make sence. I guess it wold invalidate any BMW warrenty on the engine.
I have seen a setup using the empyty spare wheel area for the gas tank, and LPG is suposed to be cleaner and better for the engine.

1 pound per gallon ? .....I wish !!

Id be very careful as I would be very surprised if their was any warrenty.

I had LPG fitted to a Ford Explorer and did 150,000 trouble free miles in just under 4 years and I was convinced this was the way forward. I then converted a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and had nothing but problems resulting in the fact that within 40,000 both heads were trash. It was still within warrenty but Jeep blaimed the LPG, The LPG companies warrenty only covered up to ?1K not much good when the repair came to almost ?4K. I have sold the Jeep and now run a 530d E61 and have done almost 20,000 miles in the last 5 months and hope it will be much more reliable.

PS one of the downsides of LPG is the filling, look how small the usable tank is (90 ltr tank you can normally only put 50-60 lts of Gas) and how long it takes to fill. I was filling up if not every day certainly every second day, with the BM im doing it twice a week unless ive a long trip.

Dont do it, if you need greater ecconomy buy a diesel

Guys we're using the most expensive gas and diesel in the world and I have 3 petrol one diesel car and never thought of LPG. One of my friends had a 2001 735iL (in 2003) he converted the car to LPG in the best garage and after 30k kms his engine blew.

I have a BMW 2005 E60 525i, I purchased it in Aug 2008 and drove it for 4 months before having it converted to LPG. On petrol it was costing me ?35 to do 130 miles of all local driving, I decided to have it converted to LPG it cost me ?1800 all in to have a Prins LPG system supplied and fitted (prins being the more expencive and better system on the market, however you pay for what you get). Since having it converted it is now costing me ?15 of LPG to do the same 130 mile all local driving!! The 67 liter tank is fitted in the spare wheel well, I have had no problems with the system what so ever it drives perfectly the car feels no different regardles of if its driven on petrol or LPG. it is smoot and no loss of power what so ever. A 400 mile motorway journey costs me about ?37 in LPG and would cost me about ?80 to do the same journey on petrol. You may have read some real horror stories about LPG but the truth of the matter if you go for the best system on the market (to my knowledge this is Prins) and have it installed by someone who really understands LPG systems you will not have a problem!! Do not have a cowboy company install the system Remember you pay for what you get!! The best thing I ever did is have my car converted to lpg. My system also came with a 2 years unlimited milage parts and labour warenty. I had my system installed by a company called Green Automotive Systems based in Huddersfield West Yorkshire, UK. contact number is 01484 510520. Finaly to mention it is not really a problem finding somewhere to fill up you can usually find somewhere selling LPG every 5 miles and furthermore if you have a TOMTOM Go, you can find places that sell LPG by using the Points of interest within city option!
