There are many posts on replacement wheels, and I enjoy them as much as the next guy. Auto jewelry, race styling, or pure bling -- they all alter the appearance of the car.

What about the performance side though? Technically, I can see the benefits of reducing the unsprung weight, and reducing the rolling inertia --- but can you really feel the difference? My current 124s are pretty heavy -- replacing them with 167 M6 wheels would reduce weight -- but am I likely to feel the difference from the drivers seat or just admire it from curbside?

I feel a lot lighter and quicker with the 166's on now so yeah, I think it does make a difference in unsprung weight....

I have lightweight/forged Dinan wheels on my M5 (which I kept from my former 550i). I do notice snappier acceleration in lower gears and quicker turning response in the twisties vs. stock. Makes a huge difference in performance when you lose almost 30 lbs. of unsprung weight. (The downside though is the hefty price of admission per wheel).

If the dinan are lighter than stock 166s at 19.75lbs and 20.75lbs, what are the lightest wheels we can get? Or is the
dinan info correct and these are the lightest?

The dinan ones are very light, not sure if it's really the lightest possible, but pretty darn close...

My BBS RGR is farily light, I think 20-21 lbs on the front and 21-22 on the rear
I think it makes a noticeable difference. My stock 17" setup is like 55 lbs, my 19" BBS is ~44-46 lbs (I actually weighed it).

One of the lightest one is Dymag but very expensive, http://www.dymag.com/index2_e.html.

Also, braking will be very noticable when switching to lighter wheel
