it will wear off, you'll just end up spending much more money than just doing it once professionally

Is a good paint job just as durable as powdercoating?

No...less likely hood of chipping and/or cracking with PC'ing...

Powdercoating is very easy. The biggest problem for the DIY'er is finding an oven to bake the rims in. It also smells, so the wife is going to get upset if you try to use the home over, if they fit in it. If you want to powdercoat you can buy a system for around $100 and play around with it on some smaller parts before you try the rims.

I could disagree, I know someone who did a diy on his c6 corvettes wheels and painted them with specially made wheel paint, using primer and sandpaper, his results were very nice, did not chip, flake or anything. Its been through, rain snow salt heat...

Wurth paints have long been recognized as matching BMW wheel paints and I feel that refinishing a wheel in good condition using proper prep and good paints is a DIY for some. Powder coating is something many might try at home but IMHO getting it right requires experience and proper equipment.

But, everyone is making it seem so simple I might try it at home ... but before I do that I have a technical question , "I'm going to save a friend some money and do some brain surgery on him at home. Should I use a circular or jig saw to open his skull?"
