i know this has been discussed many times, but i`m not sure if a filter would change the intake sound at all. i`m not looking for more intake noise just better filtration as long as it won`t clog my o2 sensor. thanks for your help.

I have a Dinan throttle body + K&N filter installed on my car, and the intake sound hasn't changed one bit. Still sounds the same as stock despite the increased airflow through the stock airbox.

i deleted the charcoal filter and added the k&n at the same time. that produced a slightly louder roar.

I just put in the K&N and also took out the charcoalfilter. I have not noticed any increase in the intake noise at all. It still sounds exactly as it did before. I have heard that there is not any concern with the O2 sensor. In fact, my dealer is also selling this part as a "performance" upgrade. I figure they wouldn't be selling it if it was a problem.

Also, cheapest place I found the K&N (part 33-2292) filter for the E60 was on Amazon.com for $43.36 with free shipping.
