I just bought a Valentine V1 on ebay for $250 Version 1.8.
It says on the website that the only update available is POP and Euro mode. From what I've read, there's no point in getting the POP because POP is not admissible in court so cops don't really use it.
Thoughts? I'm excited to upgrade my old crappy radar detector.

Upgrade costs $139 plus your return shipping, so you'd be right back at $389. That's a refurb unit with the latest software. POP and laser modes are nice to have, but they basically say that you've just been painted.

Same thing here.
That's why I really don't trust radar detectors.
I'd rather not speed at all than speed with a radar detector.
It gives you a false sense of security.
If you MUST speed frequently, then I guess it's only a positive to have the radar detector, not a negative, but I really don't trust them considering:
1)Cops hide right over the hill or after a turn.
2) Keep the radar guns off until they see that first car fly over the hill
With a radar detector, you must speed in traffic so that it works best.
If you're the first guy in line, you're screwed since the cop is waiting for the first guy to fly by before turning the radar gun on.
Just my opinion.

Mine has saved me at least $2000-3000 in tickets. So I swear by it. If you're speeding and a cop is around the corner and your radar goes off, you slow down. The cop has to have visual contact to know that you're the one speeding regardless of how many cars follow.
