As I said in the previous post it just might be smg tranny that made me think m3 was faster... we'll find out though since a buddy of mine still has the e46 m3 and cant wait to race me... I didnt buy this car to race, but oh well i'll never grow up lol... By the way I do agree with you that its smoother and all that but in the end still....
Where can I get exhaust, remap? My usual m3 sources dont deal with e60 (turnermotorsport, etc). If I remove catalyc c. will it turn on my check engine light, other problems? Thanks a lot...!

SMG/MT has a low ratio: higher final drive ratio and you'll have a better acceleration (check my sig). But start with exhaust and remap

get a sprintbooster and drive that around while you wait for to decide on your other mods.. the booster is a given, and easy as pie to install.. congrads on the 545 and post up some pics when you can.. we all love pics here

since you're all about MAKING power and not losing it, have a look at this thread about exhaust options for the 545i:

Welcome~!
there are so many options.... where shall we start.
If you want to produce HP without any losses you can start with:

RPI scoops with BMC drop in filter (Trinity is a very reputable and trustworthy vendor)
Powerchip or Dinan ecu reflash. (You must physically go to a licensed dealer or send in your ecu to reprogram)
Dinan or Eisenman

But then of course if you want to go all out you can go with a VF supercharger.

Hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck

hi,

i have 545i too and you are right it shifts not as fast as you can expect from 330 HP. My body had audi s4 and it felt faster with less HP.

I'm thinking to install Dinan's 1st stage software and see if it changes anything. (without spending money on any parts yet)

Sorry I have to go here again but you are all missing the most obvious and easy mod for him.....sell the 545 and buy an M5. ISSUE RESOLVED

Welcome to E60!!

I highly recommend Dinan parts. I have Dinan intake, throttle body, exhaust and stage 3 installed.
And let me tell you, once you get those, it will be a different animal. You just have to drive it to feel what I mean.
I installed all those 4 at the same time and OMG my car changed completely!!!

And as for the 545i feels slower than Audi's, E46 M3s. It's all about your senses/perception(hearing, seeing, feeling etc).
M3 has louder exhaust(sound influences quite a lot), louder engine note, fast & jerky shifting from SMG etc all made you
'think' m3 is a lot faster. In reality, Best runs from M3 was 13.3 and 13.7 from 545i. Only couple ticks slower.
So, how you 'felt' is not accurate. I still think my wife's 2003 Infiniti G35 AT 'feels' faster due to lower seat position,
louder cabin, louder stock exhaust etc. But is it faster than 545i? No.

Anyway, enjoy your new ride!!

P.S I think Dinan still offers 15% off on their parts no? If they are, take advantage of it!!

get a dedicated engine remap.......period.................

your car was built well under its tollerances, the car has a huge safty margin by BMW....just release some of the "stored power" its cheap, and if done properly its safe, i recon every car out there (except exotica, who are at there limits already) is capable of 20% more power just by adjustments (ecu normaly)

find a good mapper who knows there onions and do a before and after dyno run.
you will be amaized....
better fuel and use some octaine booster like millers
de restrict your exhaust (bin the cats)
change your pannel filter for something like K&N

LAST BUT NOT LEAST SPEND A FEW $$$ on a fast driving course
a better driver will always beat a better car.
