tategoi: I agree with you, with two caveats. One is that you can sample high enough that MP3 will sound great, and for many people, the convenience of having a Library-of-Congress sized music collection with them all the time is too much to pass up. Differenct strokes for different folks. It's not for me, but I understand that BMW advertised it and many people are not too happy that it hasn't been delivered yet, especially because they know it's not rocket science so what's holding it up?

But why would you want to iPod your BMW? MP3 quality is known to be inferior.
Actually MP3 quality can sound just as good as CD if endoded properly to most ears. I have done sound tests with friends and myself of properly encoded CDs and the listeners couldn't tell which was CD and which was MP3. The main advantage as another poster popinted out is that you can carry with you your entire library of music. Again different strokes for different folks, I personally would like atleast an aux input and be able to play MP3s. An aux input is a relatively inexpensive item that BMW could offer and allow people to add to their cars.
